The Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) has announced plans to launch cattle and hog futures contracts by the end of 2026. ICE is one of the world’s largest exchange operators, owning the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and operating globally in futures, commodities and financial markets.
The company indicated this decision was driven by customer demand for an alternative marketplace for trading livestock futures. According to the announcement, ICE will offer one physically delivered cattle futures contract and three cash-settled contracts for cattle and hogs. ICE is aiming to launch the contracts December 7, pending regulatory approval. They will be listed under the codes COW, MOO and SOW.
NCBA and KLA will continue monitoring this development and evaluating its potential implications for cattle producers.
