Youth exhibitors are preparing for the 94th Kansas Junior Livestock Show (KJLS), set for October 2-4 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. This year, 887 exhibitors entered 2,236 animals, including 175 market steers, 412 breeding heifers, 252 market hogs, 358 breeding gilts, 299 market lambs, 300 breeding ewes, 224 market goats and 216 commercial does.
KJLS also recognizes youth achievements beyond the show ring. Scholarships are awarded to exhibitors who demonstrate excellence in academics, community service and 4-H/FFA. Since the program began in 1993, it has awarded $597,550 to 411 exhibitors. Last year, 13 youth received $20,000 in scholarships. The Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) Club Calf Sale will be held October 3 in conjunction with KJLS. Both steer and heifer prospects will be offered, with commission proceeds supporting KLF Youth in Agriculture scholarships. For more information about the sale, click here.
