The U.S. House of Representatives voted yesterday to send a short-term government funding bill to President Donald Trump for his signature. The continuing resolution (CR), which will fund the government through December 11, passed by a vote of 370-48. The Senate already had advanced the measure prior to the August recess. The CR maintains federal funding at current levels through the new deadline, and includes adjustments to preserve SNAP and WIC food programs, as well as provisions for disaster relief and national security.
Congress now should be positioned to address government funding when it returns after the midterms, setting the stage for Senate leaders to negotiate top-line spending for fiscal year 2027 appropriations. To date, the House has advanced all 12 appropriations bills through their respective subcommittees and the House Appropriations Committee has favorably reported each measure. The full House already has passed the FY27 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Act; Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act; and National Security, Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act, leaving nine bills for consideration.
NCBA successfully submitted requests to multiple House appropriations subcommittees, which have been incorporated into bills and report language. The Senate has not yet begun full committee consideration of its appropriations measures. NCBA will remain actively engaged in this process.
