This past Friday, President Donald Trump proposed increasing imports of foreign beef, including an additional 300,000 metric tons that would enter the U.S. market at prices well below current market levels. KLA and NCBA strongly oppose this proposal as it would undermine the market conditions that already are encouraging producers to rebuild the U.S. cowherd after years of drought, high input costs and other challenges that have reduced cattle numbers. This type of government intervention, designed to drive down prices, will only cause long-term harm to producers, domestic beef production and the stability of the U.S. cattle industry.
Members are encouraged to reach out to their U.S. Senators and Representatives and urge them to oppose plans to increase foreign beef imports by clicking here.
KLA and NCBA will continue to engage with policymakers on this issue.
