Waggie and Gardiner
The Kansas Stockman and KLA were recognized last week during the Livestock Publications Council (LPC) awards program held at the Ag Media Summit in St. Louis, MO.
An article authored by KLA Manager of Communications and Advertising Rachel Waggie received first place in the production/management category. The article, “Using genomics in the commercial cowherd,” was published in the March 2025 issue. In that same category, an article, “Weathering the winter,” written for the November/December 2025 issue by Stockman freelance writer Macey Mueller, earned honorable mention. Stockman Editor Scarlett Madinger wrote a column that received second place in the commentary or essay category. The column, “The greatest,” appeared in the September 2025 issue.
Waggie also earned first place in the feature photograph category for a photo she took that ran in the September 2025 issue. KLA received second place in the category for feature videos over 3 minutes for the “I am KLA” video released last year during the convention.
At the awards luncheon held on the last day of the event, Angus seedstock producer and KLA member Mark Gardiner of Gardiner Angus Ranch near Ashland was presented the LPC Headliner Award, which recognizes an individual for meritorious service to the livestock industry. In addition, Waggie was presented the LPC Workhorse Award for going above and beyond in giving of her time and talents for the benefit of the organization and the livestock communications industry.
Waggie also was elected to serve on the LPC board of directors during the group’s annual meeting. LPC is a professional improvement organization serving the livestock communications industry.
