USDA Announces CBB Appointments For 2026

June 5, 2026

USDA has appointed 42 members to serve on the Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB). Two appointees are from Kansas and each will serve their first three-year term beginning at the Cattle Industry Summer Business Meeting in July. Matt Grabbe is from Hays and, along with his family, owns a diversified operation consisting of a cow-calf herd, backgrounding yard and farming business. Jessica Weltmer of Smith Center and her family operate a ranching, cattle feeding and farming business.

Other Kansans that will continue serving on the board include Larry Kendig, Osborne; Marisa Kleysteuber, Garden City; Jacquelyne Leffler, Americus; and Evan Lesser, Palco.

The board is authorized by the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985 and is composed of 99 members who must be beef producers or importers of beef and beef products nominated by certified producer organizations, of which KLA is one. The group oversees collection of the $1-per-head checkoff and is responsible for approving the annual budget for national checkoff-funded programs.
