This fall, the Kansas Beef Council (KBC) helped nearly 300 producers across the state earn or renew their Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification through in-person trainings held in Ellsworth, Holton and Ottawa.
Led by Kansas State University Extension Veterinarian A.J. Tarpoff, each session walked participants through best practices in cattle handling, animal health, record keeping and transportation, reminding producers that BQA is more than a certification—it’s a daily commitment to doing things right. While many attend to renew their certification, the majority come for continuing education, learning how evolving research and on-farm practices can strengthen both animal welfare and beef quality. That ongoing pursuit of knowledge is what helps maintain consumer confidence and ensures that every beef product reflects the care taken on Kansas farms and ranches.
“It was great to see so many beef producers come and participate in the BQA sessions,” Tarpoff said. “These continuing education meetings highlight the dedication folks have to the cattle they raise and the beef products they produce.”
These trainings are funded in part by the beef checkoff, which invests in producer education, consumer outreach and research that strengthen demand for beef at home and abroad. KBC extends sincere appreciation to the producers who attended, the host sites that welcomed participants and Tarpoff for his leadership in helping Kansas cattlemen and women continue setting the bar high for beef quality.
