High School Students Participate In Industry Leadership Academy

June 25, 2025

Fourteen high school students from around the country gathered on the Kansas State University campus June 11-14 for the 2025 K-State Animal Science Leadership Academy (KASLA), an intensive four-day experience designed to develop the next generation of leaders in the livestock industry. These students represent the 16th KASLA class.

Attendees participated in hands-on workshops, went on tours, had faculty mentor time and heard from industry leaders, allowing them to explore career pathways in animal agriculture while building communication and leadership skills. Students toured livestock units on campus and visited Cross Country Genetics, Tiffany Cattle Company, KLA, Bichelmeyer Meats and the American Royal. Throughout the week, participants also worked in teams to evaluate current events within the animal science industry and educate others. The experience culminated with team presentations.

Hosted each year by the K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, more than 300 students in total have taken part in the program. The Livestock and Meat Industry Council has sponsored KASLA for the past 15 years. More information is available here.
