A heifer fed and owned by High Choice Feeders of Scott City won the Earl C. Brookover Memorial Award at the Beef Empire Days fed cattle show. The 1,535 lb. entry placed fourth among live heifers and in the carcass contest for the best combined finish in the show. The heifer hung a 980 lb. carcass, had an 18.50 square inch ribeye with .44” of fat cover, graded high Choice and was a Yield Grade (YG) 1.81.
HRC Feedyard of Scott City fed the entry chosen as the champion heifer carcass, which was owned by Schurr/Krier. The 1,345 lb. heifer hung a 792 lb. carcass, had a 15.25 square inch ribeye with .45” of backfat, graded low Prime and was a YG 2.16.
The grand champion steer, placing second among live steers and sixth in the carcass contest, was a 1,680 lb. entry fed by Finney County Feedyard of Garden City and owned by Scott Livingston from Kingman. The steer hung a 968 lb. carcass, had a 16.35 square inch ribeye with .45” of backfat, graded Choice and was a YG 2.44.
Reeve Cattle Co. of Garden City fed and owned the entry chosen as the grand champion steer carcass. The 1,602 lb. steer hung a 990 lb. carcass, had a 14.70 square inch ribeye with .46” of fat cover, graded low Prime and was a YG 3.04.
