Beef Empire Days Live Show Champions Chosen

June 6, 2025

A 1,620 lb. entry owned and fed by Pioneer Feedyard near Oakley was chosen as champion steer in the Beef Empire Days Live Show June 3 in Garden City. The reserve live steer was a 1,680 lb. entry fed by Finney County Feedyard of Garden City and owned by Scott Livingston from Kingman.

The champion live heifer was a 1,550 lb. entry fed at Sublette Feeders by Max Barkley of Scottsboro, AL, and Scott Livingston. Triangle H of Garden City fed the reserve champion live heifer, weighing 1,580 lbs., for Gardiner Angus Ranch of Ashland.

Ryan Rathmann, associate professor of beef cattle biology at Texas Tech University, judged the live show. A total of 111 steers and 57 heifers competed in the show, which Merck Animal Health sponsored.

When the live show was completed, cattle were transported to Tyson Fresh Meats at Holcomb for the carcass competition. Next week’s KLA newsletter will have the Earl Brookover Award winner and champions from the carcass show.
