The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service announced last week it will reinstate the July cattle inventory report after cutting it last year. The report will be released July 25.
County estimate reports for crops and livestock also will be published again. The reinstatement will be effective for the 2024 row crops season and the 2025 small grains season. These reports will be released on the following dates: corn, sorghum and soybean yields May 6; cotton yields May 12; cattle May 13; and rice and peanut yields May 23.
“The return of the July cattle report and county estimates is a big win for cattle producers who utilize these reports to efficiently run their operations and make important marketing decisions. These reports are not costly to produce and the amount they are used by the U.S. agricultural sector makes them extremely cost-effective,” said NCBA Executive Director of Government Affairs Tanner Beymer.
The agency’s stated reasoning for discontinuing the reports last year was to accommodate budget reductions contained in the appropriations bill.
