KBC Helps Launch Beef Booklet Series

October 18, 2023

The Kansas Beef Council (KBC) has partnered with the Nebraska and Oklahoma beef councils to bring agricultural education into mainstream classrooms through a booklet series about various aspects of the beef industry. The series will contain three readers that provide scientifically accurate facts about beef production, information on the various occupations in the cattle industry and QR codes that allow students to dig deeper into the content.

The readers have been designed for students in both middle and high school, and target STEM and family and consumer sciences classes. The material was developed not only to inform students about cattle production, but also to encourage them to think critically about the complexities of various sustainability aspects such as greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient upcycling and the role cattle play in the ecosystem.

“This reader series will help students who typically do not take agriculture-based classes make connections to the beef industry in a traditional classroom setting,” said KBC Director of Nutrition Abby Heidari. “The series will help students become critical observers and analytical thinkers as they uncover the interconnectedness of beef production and sustainability.”
