Hours-Of-Service Waiver Extended

April 17, 2020

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has extended its hours-of-service waiver another five weeks for livestock haulers in response to the nationwide coronavirus pandemic. The exemption was first issued March 13 and was due to expire April 12. It now is set to expire May 15. The declaration also was further expanded to cover liquefied gases to be used in refrigeration or cooling systems.

Drivers wishing to haul under this exemption should print and keep in their cab a copy of the expanded emergency declaration, which can be found here.

FMCSA also has published a set of frequently asked questions specifically addressing actions state driver licensing agencies or commercial driver’s license holders may take during this public health crisis that are permissible under safety regulations. This information can be accessed here.
