Nutrition Strategies Including Beef Presented To Western Kansas Dietitians

October 22, 2019

The Kansas Beef Council (KBC) reached 30 registered dietitians at the Western Kansas Dietetic Association Conference October 4 in Hays. A checkoff-funded session featured Cara Harbstreet, MS, RD, LD, of Street Smart Nutrition. Her presentation helped the group understand the importance of implementing intuitive eating principles in counseling. Emphasis was placed on using nutrition to promote the feeling of fullness with nutrient-dense foods such as beef, which offers a package including 10 essential nutrients in a high-quality protein. Further emphasis was placed on helping patients discover or rediscover the satisfaction in eating, as research shows including a variety of foods people already love, like lean beef, may improve acceptance and adherence to dietary recommendations. Social media assets highlighting lean beef were shared throughout the presentation.

KBC sponsored a lean beef lunch for the dietitians and was able to promote the educational webinar “How Do We Feed the Future Without Eating the Planet? Examining the Human and Environmental Impacts of Beef Production."
