KJLS Presents $22,000 In Scholarships

The Kansas Junior Livestock Show (KJLS) presented a total of $22,000 in scholarships during last week’s event in Hutchinson. Fourteen students from across the state who have excelled academically, in community service and in 4-H/FFA received scholarships.  

Earning $2,500 stipends were Gabrielle Hammer of Wallace and Rylee Olson from Olsburg. Those receiving $1,750 scholarships were Wesley Denton, Blue Rapids; Jerilyn Nelson, Soldier; Lukas Sebesta, Wilson; and Sarah Sergeant, Lebo. Kady Figge, Onaga; Jessica Jensen, Courtland; and Brody Nemecek, Iola, each received $1,500. Scholarships for $1,000 were presented to Rachelle Anderson, Jamestown; Lindsey Ascher, Milford; and Hannah Dechant, Goodland. 

This is the 27th year for the KJLS scholarship program, which has awarded a total of $472,900 to 337 exhibitors since its inception in 1993. The program would not be possible without the generosity of Cargill, Merck Animal Health, Seaboard Foods, INTRUST Bank, Coonrod Family Foundation, Shane and Kianne Prill, Frontier Farm Credit, Friends of Eldon Addy, Mark and Kim Harms and the Beefeaters Auction.
