Frank and Marilyn Hinkson

Hinkson Angus Ranch of Cottonwood Falls was named the Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) Seedstock Producer of the Year yesterday (6/20) during the group’s annual meeting and symposium in Brookings, SD. The award is presented annually to recognize dedication to improving the beef industry at the seedstock level.

The ranch is owned by Frank Hinkson, Jr. and his son, Trey, who is the fourth generation to be involved in the family business. Cattle on the ranch include both fall- and spring-calving herds, as well as a large number of commercial heifers purchased each year, mostly from bull customers. Hinkson Angus produces practical, balanced-trait cattle that will work in a real-world environment. The Hinksons have been early to adopt scientific advancements and new technology.

Including the Hinksons, KLA now has nominated 11 seedstock winners and 20 commercial winners for the national awards.

More than 500 beef producers, academia and industry stakeholders were in attendance at the meeting. The BIF mission is to promote greater acceptance of beef cattle performance evaluation.
