The Kansas Beef Council (KBC), Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Leavenworth County Beef Improvement Association will host a special advanced beef cattle care and health training session featuring a calf necropsy. Rocky Top Limousin of Tonganoxie will host the training June 17 at 6:00 p.m.
This workshop is free of charge and includes a complimentary meal. Pre-registration is requested by contacting KBC at (785) 273-5225 or emailing John Sachse at [email protected]. Walk-in attendance is welcome, but no meal will be guaranteed. Rocky Top Limousin is located at 18126 Fairmount Road, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.
Beef producers can become Beef Quality Assurance-certified through the checkoff-funded session by learning more about up-to-date standards and technologies that improve animal welfare and food safety. K-State Extension Beef Veterinarian A. J. Tarpoff will lead the training. Beyond reinforcing best practices for cattle production, obtaining certification is useful in reassuring consumers they are receiving a safe, wholesome product.
KBC administers the $1.00-per-head checkoff in Kansas. Funds are used for research, educational activities and promotion of beef and beef products. Twenty-nine cattle producer volunteers from Kansas serve on the executive committee and direct how checkoff funds are utilized.
