Live Show Champions Chosen At Beef Empire Days

The champion live steer and heifer at the Beef Empire Days fed cattle show both were fed at Sunbelt Feedyard of Hugoton. Dale and Carol Voran owned the champion steer, a black entry weighing 1,590 lbs. The champion live heifer was a Charolais cross weighing 1,462 lbs. owned by Wesley Woods. A total of 64 steers and 46 heifers were entered in the show.            

Rodney Drenon fed the reserve champion live steer at HRC Feed Yards of Scott City. The black steer weighed 1,440 lbs. A 1,550 lb. black entry fed at Kinsley Feeders by Big West Management was the reserve champion live heifer.            

Oklahoma State University Professor of Applied Animal Science Blake Bloomberg judged the live show. When the show was completed, cattle were transported to Tyson Fresh Meats of Holcomb for the carcass competition. Next week, KLA Today will have the Earl Brookover Memorial Award winner and champions from the carcass show.
