G3 Cattle of Uniontown exhibited the winning pair in this week’s Super Cow-Calf Show at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. The grand champion was a crossbred cow with a steer calf at side. This is the second year in a row a G3 pair has won the show, which is for commercial cows and calves in pasture condition.
The reserve grand champion was an English-bred cow with a heifer calf at side, exhibited by MacKenzie Moldenhauer of Valley Center. Third place was owned by Dallas Korte from Leon. Tom Carney of Sylvan Grove owned the fourth place pair. Rounding out the top five was a cow and calf from Kent Rahmeier of Sylvan Grove.
Entries in the show consisted of one cow and her natural steer or heifer calf. The cattle were evaluated using a two-judge system, with rankings based on a phenotypic score combined with an index score accounting for age and performance data of the cow-calf pair.
Sponsors for the show included ABS, Sandra Utter-Levering; Reno County Farm Bureau; and Valley Vet Supply. The show paid back 80% of the entry fees to the winners. Champion and reserve overall received five straws of ABS semen donated by Levering.
