NAFTA Negotiations Half Way Home

August 31, 2018

The U.S. and Mexico reached a preliminary agreement this week to update the North American Free Trade Agreement. This was a bilateral deal, with hopes Canada would agree to the terms in the near future.

Although the provisions of trade for beef and other commodities is still being analyzed, early reaction has been positive.

“We are encouraged by today’s preliminary U.S. - Mexico trade deal and look forward to reviewing the details. Duty-free, unrestricted and science-based trade with Mexico has benefited U.S. producers and we hope a deal with Canada can be reached soon,” NCBA said in a statement.
