KJLS To Celebrate 90th Year

Youth have entered 1,827 animals in the 90th Kansas Junior Livestock Show (KJLS), which will take place September 30 through October 2 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. A total  of 826 exhibitors have entered 152 market steers, 380 breeding heifers, 229 market hogs, 152 breeding gilts, 310 market lambs,  213 breeding ewes, 210 market goats and 181 commercial does. This event is the largest youth show in Kansas.   

KJLS will award scholarships to exhibitors who have excelled academically, in community service and 4-H/FFA. This is the 29th year for the program, which has awarded a total of $510,600 to 359 exhibitors since 1993. Last year, $20,100 was presented to 11 youth.   

In conjunction with KJLS, the Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) Club Calf Show & Sale will take place October 1 at the state fairgrounds. More than 80 steer and heifer prospects will be sold, with commission proceeds going toward KLF Youth in Agriculture scholarships. For more information, click here.
