Pandemic-related limits on gatherings recently implemented by Sedgwick County have made it impossible to hold the 2020 KLA Convention in-person at the Hyatt in Wichita. Therefore, the KLA Board of Directors met last week and made the decision to move this year’s meeting to a virtual format.
The committee and council meetings, along with the membership and business meeting, will be held over a three-week time period, starting the first week in December. The schedule is as follows: Natural Resources Committee, December 2, noon to 1:00 p.m.; Animal Health & ID Committee, December 3, noon to 1:00 p.m.; Tax Committee, December 8, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Stockgrowers Council, December 9, noon to 1:30 p.m.; and Membership & Business Meeting, December 17, noon to 2:00 p.m. CattleFax Chief Executive Officer Randy Blach will share a market outlook during the Membership Meeting.
While the virtual convention format does not require a registration fee, members will need to register for the meetings to participate by calling the KLA office or going to the KLA website located here. Those who previously registered for the in-person convention will need to register again, as the virtual meetings require some additional detail for each attendee. Registered members will be sent a Zoom conference link prior to the meeting. This link will be specific to each meeting and each individual and should not be forwarded.
It is strongly recommended that members access the virtual meeting using a personal computer. If one is not available, or internet connectivity is limited, KLA recommends using a tablet or a smart phone to access the meeting. If none of these options are available, members can call in, but participation will be significantly limited. Phone participants will not be able to see handouts, will not be able to access electronic voting, will be required to vote by roll call and may have limited ability to engage in discussion.
KLA will be processing refunds in the next 30 days for members who had paid the registration fee for the in-person meeting. For those who booked a room at the Hyatt, the hotel should automatically issue refunds. If a refund is not received, call Wendy Harms at the KLA office.
