An ultramodern feed center, cross-ventilated housing designed for cow comfort and a rotary milking parlor will be on display during the August 13 KLA/Kansas State University Ranch Management Field Day at High Plains Ponderosa Dairy near Plains. In addition to a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, experts from K-State, the Beef Cattle Institute and High Plains Ponderosa will give presentations, respectively, on external parasite management, the traceability pilot project known as CattleTrace and advancing positive consumer perceptions of cattle production.
This unique field day starts with registration at 2:00 p.m., includes the dairy tour, educational sessions and concludes with a beef dinner at 6:00 p.m. Parking will be southwest of the dairy at Ormiston Farms.
There is no cost to attend the field days. The second field day in the 2019 series will be held August 15 at Moyer Farms north of Emporia. Sponsors for the events are the Farm Credit Associations of Kansas and Bayer Animal Health.
