Environmental
regulations imposed on livestock producers have
increased in number and complexity. This appears to be a trend
that will not change in the foreseeable future. In
order to assist livestock producers with this
challenge, the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA)
formed a new company in April 2001.
KLA Environmental Services, Inc. provides fee-based
services which allow KLA members to receive hands-on
assistance to comply with the increasing number of complex
environmental regulations. KLA members have first
priority and a preferred rate over non-KLA members.
There is a wide range of services available,
including:

Engineering
services for expansion projects

Evaluation
of permits to ensure compliance

Establishing
a monthly
maintenance program to meet all renewal
and reporting requirements

Development
of an environmental database specific to each
facility

Development
of Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures
plans (SPCC)

Development
and maintenance of a nutrient management
plan

Performance
of whole-pond permeability tests
-
Assistance
with water rights issues
