KLF/KJLA AWARD $7,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO KANSAS YOUTH

            ( WICHITA ) – The Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) and the Kansas Junior Livestock Association (KJLA) will recognize nine scholarship winners for the 2007-2008 school year. Recipients will receive these awards during the annual Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) Convention November 30 in Wichita . A total of $7,000 will be presented.

            Fort Dodge and KLF will present a $1,000 scholarship to Tyler Leonhard, son of John and Sarah Leonhard of Oskaloosa. This scholarship recognizes an outstanding freshman entering Kansas State University and majoring in animal science or a related field. This is the 18th year for the Fort Dodge scholarship.

            The winner of the $1,000 George C. Lemon Memorial Scholarship, administered by KLF, is Kyleigh Santee, daughter of Barry and Karen Santee from Langdon. This scholarship is awarded to a student who resides in Barber, Barton, Harper, Kingman, Pratt, Reno, Rice or Stafford county and is pursuing a degree in agriculture at a Kansas junior or senior college.

            KLF selected Jacob Gleason, son of Steve and Mary Gleason of Maple Hill, to receive the $1,000 Shriver Ranch Scholarship. This award is presented to an outstanding student who is a resident of the Flint Hills entering or returning to a Kansas junior or senior college, and pursuing a degree in agriculture with a beef production emphasis.

            Nick Hargrave, son of Steve and Debbie Hargrave from Randolph , was chosen by KLF as the recipient of the $1,000 Schering-Plough Ralgro Wheels for Bucks Scholarship. This scholarship is presented to a Kansas State University or Fort Hays State University student majoring in animal science with a career goal of being actively engaged in livestock production.

            KLF presented two additional Schering-Plough scholarships, worth $500 each, to Travis Stroble and Taylor James. Stroble is the son of Charles and Diana Stroble of Longton. James is the son of Lon and Pat James from Clay Center . These awards recognize two outstanding students entering or returning to a Kansas junior or senior college and pursuing a degree in agriculture.

            Marley Conine and Robert Craig III each will receive a $500 KJLA scholarship. Conine is the daughter of Shawn and Kelly Conine of Scott City . Craig is the son of Rebecca and Robert Craig, Jr. from Scandia . KJLA, the youth arm of KLA, presents these two scholarships each year to youth who excel academically and participate in industry and community organizations.

            In conjunction with the High Plains Journal, KJLA also will award a $1,000 scholarship to Lindsay Domer, daughter of Todd and Marilyn Domer of Topeka . This scholarship is targeted toward upperclassmen majoring in ag communications at a Kansas university.

            KLF was established in 1983 to operate solely and exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes.             KLA is a trade organization protecting the business interests of independent ranchers and feeders. Members of the association are involved in all segments of the livestock industry, including cow-calf production, backgrounding, cattle feeding, swine, dairy and sheep. The association's work is funded by voluntary dues dollars paid by its 5,900 members.
