As future leaders of the livestock industry, this is your chance to engage in discussions about what the livestock industry of the future will hold. What challenges do you see? Where will you fit into this multibillion dollar industry? What changes need to be made? It all starts right here.

Classes Begin
Education is key to success in any industry. To be a major player in the livestock industry, you will want to equip yourself with the tools necessary to compete and contribute to your industry.

   Associations 101
Since the Kansas Livestock Association was founded in 1894, its officers and staff have worked with Kansas ranchers to protect the livestock industry from overly burdensome governmental regulations, unfair trade practices and livestock theft. Learn how the association is structured, what its policies are and how it serves as a viable tool, working for members every day. 

 

   Beef  Business 215
Kansas is the BEEF state. Learn about the size and scope of the number one component of our state’s agricultural industry, with over $4.5 billion in sales in 2000. Kansas Beef Council staff will discuss how the beef checkoff benefits the beef industry by funding promotion, research and education efforts designed to build demand for beef.

   Media Relations 210
When Oprah Winfrey speaks, we know many people listen. When pop culture stars take a stance, how far reaching is their influence? What happens to the credibility of a safe meat supply when reporters misquote meat safety experts? These items and more will be covered during this intense training on how to handle the media. 

   Flint Hills Ranching 401, Strong City
Located in the magnificent Flint Hills, Chase County is home to people who care for the land better than the “green” environmentalists, and livestock better than PETA activists would know how. In this part of the world these people aren’t activists, they are commonly referred to as ranchers. Area ranchers will discuss their cow-calf and  stocker cattle operations. 

  Beef Fabrication 505 – IBP, Emporia
Notice the high class number for this session. We’ll see firsthand how the world’s largest beef packer processes millions of cattle on a yearly basis. 

   History 515, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve
Take a trip back in time as we visit the historic Z Bar Ranch located north of Strong City and Cottonwood Falls. This ranch covers more than 10,000 acres and the features a historic rock home and barn. We’ll learn about the effort underway at this location to highlight the significance of the Tallgrass Prairie.

   Beef Innovation 615, Flint Hills Foods, Alma
The beef industry has changed immensely in the last 10 years and few advancements have made a bigger impact on the demand for beef than the introduction of fully cooked and packaged beef entrees. Flint Hills Foods has been a leader of this technology.
